What is a cookie?

Cookies are small text files that store data sent by Socrative to your computer or mobile device. They contain information that is unique to your account or your browser to enhance and personalize your experience using our app. Session-based cookies last only while your browser is open and are automatically deleted when you close your browser. A persistent cookie lasts until deleted by you or your browser, or until they expire.

Does Socrative use cookies?

Yes. Socrative uses both session-based and persistent cookies to track information about your use of our Site, Apps, or Services. Socrative sets and accesses our own cookies on the domains operated by Showbie Inc.. In addition, we use third party cookies, like Google Analytics and Intercom.

We use third party analytics tools and technologies to track and analyze data from our Site, Apps, or Services. This includes Google Analytics which is used solely on our Marketing Site. Google Analytics uses Cookies to collect information such as how often users visit the Site, what pages they visit, and what other site they used prior to coming to the Site. We use the data collected by such third party analytics tools only to help us administer and improve the quality of our Site and to analyze usage. These third parties are not permitted to use the information collected on our behalf, except to help us conduct and improve our business. Google Analytics collects only the IP address assigned to you on the date you visit the Site, rather than your name or other personally identifying information. Although Google Analytics plants a persistent Cookie on your web browser to identify you as a unique user the next time you visit the Site, the Cookie cannot be used by anyone but Google. Google’s ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics about your visits to the Site is restricted by the Google Analytics Terms of Use and the Google Privacy Policy. Note that we do not use Google Analytics in the Socrative App. For more information on Google’s privacy practices, please click here. For information about how to opt out of Google Analytics, please click here.

What can you do if you want to opt-out of or customize cookies?

You can manage cookies in your browser. In most browsers you can set up rules to manage cookies on a site-by-site basis, giving you more fine-grained control over your privacy. What this means is that you can disallow cookies from all sites except those that you trust.

If you limit the ability of websites and applications to set cookies, you may worsen your overall user experience and/or lose the ability to access the services, since it will no longer be personalized to you. It may also stop you from saving customized settings, like login information.
