Inviting Students to Join a Quiz

How students can connect with their teachers quickly!

Written by Allison Gottlieb

You can either invite your students live or prepare their invite instructions in advance. You can also reset both links and/or QR codes. Follow this guide to find out how. Additionally, this guide includes troubleshooting tips for resolving common access issues students may encounter.

Invite Students to a Live Quiz

Invite instructions are easily found after you launch a quiz.

  • After launching an quiz, select Invite Students to display the invite instructions.

  • Students can either scan the QR code to join the quiz or visit gosocrative.com and enter the room name.

  • Students can also enter the room name at the top of socrative.com under the "Joining an activity?" label.

💡 Inviting students to an activity only requires an invite link or room name. They do not need to create a Socrative account

If students encounter issues joining a room, ensure they have the correct room code provided by their teacher. Incorrect codes are a common cause of access problems.

Prepare Invite Instructions Ahead of Time

You may want to send join instructions to students ahead of launching a quiz or embed them into a PowerPoint, slideshow, or learning management system.

Copy Invite Link or Download QR Code

  • Invite instructions can be found by selecting 'Rooms' from the top of the page.

  • Select the 'Share icon' next to the room name.

  • From here, you will have the option to copy a direct link to the Room and/or download the QR code.

Reset Invite Links and QR Codes

The Room link and QR code can be reset to provide access to a new set of students and revoke access for the previous group of students.

  • Select 'Rooms' from the top of the page.

  • Select the 'Share icon' next to the room name.

  • Under the 'Room link for...' field, select the circular arrow icon to the right of the 'Copy Link' button. Resetting will invalidate the previous room link and QR code.

✍️ If the room has a roster, students will require their Student ID to join. Learn about creating Rosters and Student IDs

Rostered rooms are a Pro/Essentials feature in Socrative.

Troubleshooting Common Access Problems

If students are unable to access a quiz or connect to a room, consider the following steps:

  1. Verify the Room Code: Students need a room code or access code to join a quiz. This code is created and shared by the teacher. Ensure that students have received the correct code from their teacher. Support cannot provide these codes.

  2. Check the Quiz Status: If the quiz has been launched in a room, students can log in as usual to access and complete the quiz. If the quiz has not been launched yet, students will see a "waiting for next activity" screen.

As students join their room, they'll be able to participate in all of the activities launched until they log out. If there's no activity running, the following message will be shown:

"Waiting for your teacher to start an activity."

If students encounter this waiting screen, it means no quiz has been launched yet or the students have already completed the quiz. Teachers should first ensure the quiz is active for students to participate and that the room code is correct.

If the quiz is active and has the "one-attempt" option turned-off, students can click the gear icon and Leave Room to log out and log back into the room. This will allow them to retry the quiz.
