When creating/editing quizzes, there are various options you have by way of customization for each question. These options allow for more interactive quizzes and assessments:
Add animations and visual aids such as infographics to clarify complex ideas.
Add graphs & data to help your students analyze more effectively.
Add simulations or demonstrations to showcase intricate processes, experiments, or historical events.
Add case studies and real-world examples via video to illustrate practical applications.
Add narration or voiceovers to reinforce key concepts.
The options to support engagement, flexibility, and differentiated learning are nearly endless! The following features of a quiz can be customized to your quizzing needs:
Questions
Questions can be of your choosing! Questions can have up to 65,000 characters. Choose between Multiple choice, True/False or Short Answer type questions.
Answer Choices
Add as many answer choices as you need. You can use the Add Answer button if you need more answer options. Answers can have up to 10,000 characters. The X button on the right side is available if you'd like to remove an answer.
You can choose the correct answer by checking the circle on the left side of the answer choice. You can have as many correct responses as needed. Students will need to select all correct responses to get the question correct.
Images
You can add an image using the image button. If you already have an image, you can remove it using the X icon. Images can also be added to answers and explanations using the same + next to them.
Left: Add image icon. Right: Removing an image using the X icon.
💡 Tip: Drag and drop images over the image icon to quickly add them to your quiz.
★ Embeddable Video
To access this feature, you must be subscribed to Socrative's Pro plan.
Videos can be added to a question or to a question's feedback section.
YouTube and Vimeo videos are supported.
Embedded videos do not support YouTube Music and Playlists and Vimeo Playlists.
★ Highlight Segments in Embeddable Video
The highlight functionality allows teachers to focus student attention on key segments of embedded videos, assess precise concepts shared in videos, and sequence questions from the same video.
By embedding a video into a question and clicking the edit icon in the video preview, you can use the drag-handles to select the start and end time of how the video plays for students.
Navigable Links
You can add an embeddable link either in your question or answer:
This will allow you to add links to external media content such as audio, videos, reference material, and more!
Explanation
Your explanation will appear at the bottom of the Instant Feedback dialog after a student answers the question, regardless if they got it right or wrong. If the quiz is being delivered in Open Navigation mode—or if you have Show Question Feedback disabled—students will not see the explanation.
Once you're satisfied with the question you've created, use the checkmark icon to save it. You can use the trash icon to delete the question if you change your mind. Deleting the question is a permanent action and cannot be undone.
Rich Text Options
When typing in any of the text fields, you'll see a couple of formatting options:
You can bold, italicize, or underline text. Superscripts and subscripts are also available. You also have the ability to enter in a math equation. Learn more in this link.
Once you've filled in the fields you need, here's an example of what a completed question looks like:
Make sure to click on the checkmark icon to save it! Your questions can always be edited; look for the pencil icon on the right side. You can also move questions around using the arrow icons or make a copy of a question using the + icon. You can also delete a question using the trash icon if you change your mind.
And that's it; you're on track to creating a full quiz! You can switch things up by adding in True/False questions and Short Answer questions. The formatting options are similar for each question type.
